Possible Questions
Will I have a six-pack when I finish P90X? Maybe…maybe not…It will all depend upon your own physiology. You may be fit enough right now to get a six-pack before the end of P90X, or you may have a bit more to work off before a six-pack can make its appearance. It is also important to note that your results will completely depend upon how hard you are willing to push yourself. I have seen some people who seem to make very little improvements, but I have also seen people who have made astonishing results in just a month…..So, to answer your question, it will completely depend upon you.
Can I do P90X? Probably, every case is unique, and everyone should consult a doctor before extreme exercise. However, there have been lots of cases where individuals have lost hundreds of pounds with P90X. It is not uncommon for people to modify P90X to suit their individual needs. If you cannot complete an exercise, take the liberty to modify it according to your physical needs.
Is there a diet? Yes, just like construction, if you want to build a house you will need both the labor and the materials. A house will not be built on sweat alone. That being said, you can do the workouts without following the diet…..You probably just will not get the results that you were hoping to attain.
Will I need any exercise equipment? Yes, there are a few pieces of equipment that are a necessary part of the workout. P90X is largely made up of resistance workouts. That means that you will need something to resist your movements. You will need a chin up bar or a set of resistance bands. Also, you will want some hand weights.
(More questions and answers below the video) See What Others have to say about P90X!!
How many calories will I burn? This will vary depending upon you height, weight, heart rate, and other contributing factors such as how much effort was put into the workout. In general, an average person will roughly burn 600 calories per workout. However, I have seen these numbers vary from 500 to 800 calories
How much weight will I lose? Unknown. Each person is too different to give an expected amount of weight loss. The only thing that is certain is that the more effort you put into the program, the more weight you will lose. Commit and Succeed.
P90X vs P90X Plus P90X Plus is the next step in the P90X program, and it is highly recommended that you complete the original P90X program at least once (probably more) before attempting P90X Plus. It is intended for individuals who consider themselves athletes to attain a higher level of fitness. It is very intense.
How much weight will I lose? This is impossible to answer because it the results will vary from individual. Each person is unique, and each person will bring different levels of commitment. If you want to achieve results quickly then you must be ready to give everything that you have, plus a little more. Oh yes, and follow the P90X diet. Everything there is listed for a specific reason.
How much space is needed for P90X? Some individuals have been known to use P90X in hotel rooms which should give you a pretty good idea of the small space that is required. It is recommended to have a pull-up bar, so it would be optimal to have a location that will allow the use of one. However, if space is a concern, then you can buy some workout bands as a substitute for the pull-up bar.
Can I miss a workout? Occasionally yes, but you should not make it a habit. Workout schedules are important, and they are easy to mess up. If you want the optimum results then you should try to stick to the program. However, do not be alarmed if you do miss a workout. Progress will not be `1lost; it just won’t be gained that day.
Do I need the P90X Supplements? Not necessarily, the P90X supplements were created to give you an easy way to give your body the important vitamins and minerals to achieve great results. You can get this same nutrition through a proper diet. If you plan your meals appropriately, then no, you do not need the supplements. However, if you want a simple option to ingest those vitamins and minerals, then this is a great way to do it.
How long until you start seeing results? Results will start immediately, but it typically takes about one month before the visual results start becoming dramatic. This is just an average, so don’t be surprised if you notice some great changes in just a couple of weeks.
Is the meal plan necessary? It depends; do you want the best results for your strenuous efforts? Your body has very specific vitamin and mineral needs, and those needs increase as your physical activity increases. If you do not feed your body what it is asking for, then it will literally start to eat itself. This will also have the unfortunate side effect of not building muscle because it won’t have the materials. Basically, a proper diet is pretty important.
How much will P90X help a skinny person? It depends on what you are trying to achieve. P90X definitely builds muscle, but it is primarily designed to make your muscles toned. To clarify it is designed to turn you into an athlete, but it isn’t designed to make you look like a weight lifter.
How many calories should I consume while doing P90X? Before answering this question, I feel that I must say that P90X comes with a simple nutrition guide that takes out the calculations involved with workout diets. Ok, if you want to plan your own diet, you will need to know how many calories you will need to consume.
Step 1 – You will need to calculate your Resting Metabolic Weight (RMR). RMR = Body Weight x 10 Step 2 – You will need to calculate your daily activity burn Daily Activity Burn = RMR X .20 (20%) Step 3 – You will need to replace the calories that you burn while doing P90X Average Burned Calories = 600 Step 4 – Total the numbers, and you will have the total calories that you should consume each day.
Example 165 pound man RMR = 165 x 10 = 1650 calories Daily Activity Burn = 1650 x .20 = 330 Calories Daily Burned Calories = 600 Calories Total = 1650 + 330 + 600 = 2580 Total Calories
I need to loss over 100 pounds. Can I use P90X? Probably, some of the most famous users of P90X lost hundreds of pounds. It is important to have a physician check your overall health before beginning the program because it is a very strenuous workout. Don’t worry if you can’t complete each day’s workout. The most important thing is to keep exercising. Your weight will drop, your muscles will build, and your overall life will improve dramatically. Obviously, your health is worth fighting for.
How to mentally prepare for P90X. Working out is a battle of the mind, and the body is just a foot soldier. If you want to start and complete P90X then you will need a strategy to maintain motivation. Sit down and think for awhile. What will motivate you? Some people need encouragement from people, others will need to catalog their changes in weight, and others will need to take pictures every day to visually see the changes. Find your motivation and focus on it.
How does the P90X program work? The 90 days of P90X are split up into 3 separate phases, and each phase is split up into 4 weeks. The first 3 weeks of each phase is filled with intense alternating workouts. When you reach the 4th week of each phase, you get to enjoy a recovery week. Recovery week is a more laid back workout schedule. It is still difficult, but it will give your muscles a bit of a break.
P90X vs the Gym Most people find that for them P90X was much better than a gym on a pure physical and environmental basis (Financial savings aside). However, do not let that discourage you from a gym route because there are many people that find that the environment and weight lifting tools that a gym provides suit them better. The most important thing is to find the environment that keeps you working.
4Mentally Preparing Yourself For the P90X Diet
The P90X Nutrition Plan is definitely going to change the way that most people eat and can be the most difficult part of the entire P90X system. Working out is tough, but making sure that you are following the nutrition plan can be even tougher. In order to make sure that you create a few stumbling blocks as possible, it is important to mentally prepare yourself for what lies ahead. Here are some key highlights that need to be kept in mind when starting the P90X diet.
1.The Elimination
Every diet will eliminate certain things from your normal eating habits. With P90X, the biggest changes are often the elimination of white flour and sugar as an energy boost. These types of carbohydrates are very high on the glycemic index, which means in the long run, they will actually make you hungrier and will leave you craving even more carbs. The P90X nutrition plan will have you replacing these types of carbs and replace them with things like whole wheat bread and brown rice.
2.The Reason
To understand why you need to follow the nutrition plan is just as important as actually following it. The P90X Nutrition Plan is designed to ensure that your body gets all of the fuel that it needs to get you through your workouts, 6 days a week. This means that for your diet to work, you really need to be pushing yourself during your workouts. If you slack off on your workouts, then the nutrition plan will actually be over-providing your body with nutrients.
3.The Supplements
The P90X Nutrition Plan not only includes meals, but also a number of supplements as well. This includes things like the Results and Recovery Shake, protein bars, and much more. While you don't necessarily have to purchase every supplement from Beachbody, you do need to make sure that whatever supplements you do purchase carries the same nutritional value. If you do decide to go a different direction in terms of supplements, make sure to take the time and read all of the nutritional information to make sure that you are actually purchasing items that fit into the overall nutrition plan.
Mentally preparing yourself for the P90X Nutrition Plan is just as important as preparing for the workouts themselves. The workouts and the nutrition plan are designed to compliment each other so it is important to take them both equally as serious. When mentally preparing for the diet that you will be following, keep in mind that you will be eliminating certain foods from your diet completely, the diet will only help if you follow the workouts, and the supplements that are recommended are there for a reason.
44 P90X Nutrition Rules You Shouldn't Break
There are a lot of different reasons that the P90X nutrition plan is set up the way that it is. However, one of the most important aspects is your metabolic rate. Tony Horton spends a good deal of time discussing how improved strength will boost your resting or daily metabolic rate and the nutrition plan supplements this goal. However, there are some aspects of the nutrition plan that addresses this issue directly. Here are 4 P90X nutrition rules that if broken, will slow down your metabolism.
1.Not Enough Protein
The P90X diet is definitely a high protein diet, especially throughout the first few weeks. Not only is it important for strength training purposes, but also for metabolic purposes. Several studies have shown that eating protein can actually increase your post-meal calorie burning by up to 35%. Keep in mind, this benefit can only be seen with lean proteins because fatty proteins will still rack up calories, even though it will burn more as well.
2.White Carbohydrates
Instead of eating white bread, which is low in nutrients as well as high on the glycemic index, try eating more whole wheat bread. The same is true for pasta as well. This is because whole wheat foods are higher in fiber. Some studies have found that fiber can help boost your metabolism by as much as 30%. Make sure that you are getting at least 25 grams of fiber per day.
3.Not Eating Enough
Obviously you need to eat less calories than you burn in order to lose weight, however if you cut your caloric intake too much, you can slow your metabolism to a hault. Plus, instead of breaking down fat, your body will break down muscle tissue instead. You have worked so hard to build up your lean muscle mass with P90X workouts that it would be a waste to turn around and have your body break all that muscle down for energy. This is why eating that morning or afternoon snack is so important.
4.Getting Enough Vitamin D
Vitamin D is vital for your body to preserve metabolism boosting lean muscle. However, many studies have noted that the average person gets less than 90% of their daily recommended value of vitamin D. Keep in mind that as you build more strength and lean muscle, your daily Vitamin D needs will get higher than the average persons DRV.
If you are going to devote the time, energy, and effort of building lean muscle, improving your strength, and boosting your metabolism, the last thing you want to do is have a diet that stifles your metabolism. There are a lot of reasons that the P90X diet is such an important part of the program, and maintaining a high resting metabolism is one of those reasons.
4Understanding P90X and the Insanity Program – Metabolic Math is a Little Fuzzy
Popular programs like P90X and Insanity have become well known because they focus on boosting your overall metabolic rate, which will allow your body to burn more calories on a daily basis. However some people have problems in the middle of these programs because it seems like their body is fighting back and slowing down their metabolism. Here is a closer look at your metabolism and what it really does.
The first thing that you need to keep in mind is that “healthy” weight loss is between 1 and 3 pounds per week. While you may lose more than this during the first month of these programs, that is because you have the extra weight to lose. Once you reach a healthy weight, your body will only give up a pound or two at a time. With this is mind, it will be easier to understand what your metabolism is really doing.
You should make sure that you are trying to follow the diet that is designed to go along with the exercise program. A lot of people try to cut corners and believe that if they eat even less calories than is recommended through the Nutrition Plan included with P90X or Insanity, then they will lose even more weight. Unfortunately, this simply isn't the case. A recent study noted that people who are on extremely calorie restrictive diets are more likely to regain weight than those who are on sensible, healthy diets. This is because your body doesn't want you to lose weight.
We all know that in order to lose weight you need to burn more calories that you take in. However, your metabolic rate changes over time, and not always for the better. A recent study by the Center of Obesity Research noted that one reason that losing weight is so difficult is because your body naturally tries to compensate for the weight that you lose by slowing down your metabolism. It also noted that if you decrease your total body mass by 10%, your metabolic rate will slow down by MORE than 10% (normally between 11% and 15%). This is because your body doesn't want to lose all of those fuel reserves that it has built up over time. Essentially, your body sees your diet as threat to survival.
So what does this mean to you?
1.Follow the Nutrition Plan – P90X and the Insanity program are designed to compliment the exercises as well as the expected weight loss.
2.Understanding the Claims – These programs claim that you will lose X amount of weight, however it is important to note that this is an average, which means some weeks you may lose 5 pounds and some weeks you may gain a few. This is totally natural because your body is always adjusting your metabolic rate.
3.Understanding Your Metabolism – These programs, especially P90X, focus on boosting your resting metabolic rate by increasing muscle mass. While this will increase your metabolism, your body will also be slowing your metabolism down as a response to your new diet. That means that you will not lose weight until you boost your metabolism more than your body is slowing it down.
4How to Get Through the P90X Nutrition Plan if You Hate Vegetables
The P90X Nutrition Plan is designed to make sure that you are giving your body all of the essential vitamins and nutrients that it needs while still keeping your calorie intake under control. The big problem that a lot of people have is that there is a particular element of the nutrition plan that they just can't stomach. Sometimes it's the fruit or proteins, but more often than not, it is the vegetables.
So What Do You Do If You Hate Vegetables?
1.Identify Vegetables That You Do Like
It seems like an obvious first step, but many people just think about all of the veggies that they hate, while not giving any attention to the vegetables that they like. By first identifying the vegetables that you do like, you can create a foundation or base of veggies that you can eat on a regular basis.
2.Expanding Your List
Now that you have a list of vegetables that you like, it is time to expand it. The easiest way to do this is to try other vegetables that are in the same family. For example, if you like carrots or sweet potatoes, then you should start trying out other root vegetables. A number of people recommend using a little olive oil and spices to make any root vegetable at least tolerable. If you like lettuce, then start looking into other leafy greens to expand your vegetable list.
3.Surprise Yourself
Most people hate certain veggies because they tried them years ago and didn't like them. However, as you age, your taste buds actually change. That means that if you tried something a few years ago and hated it, you might like it today. Every time you go to the store, buy at least one new vegetable that you haven't tried in a while, or ever. Then cook it by itself with a simple preparation. This will give you an idea of what it really tastes like, who knows maybe you will find out that you like a lot more vegetables than you think.
4.Forgive Yourself
You are still going to hate certain veggies. That's fine, in fact it should be expected. Just strike that veggie off the list and move on to the next.
5.If All Else Fails
If you have tried and tried, but just can't find enough vegetables that you like to meet the demands of the P90X Nutrition Plan, then make sure that you are supplementing your diet with a nutritional shake like Shakeology. This will ensure that your body is getting what it needs.
Hating vegetables can make following the P90X Nutrition Plan more difficult, but it does not make it impossible. By following these 5 tips, you will be able to stay the course and get the best results possible.
4The 5 Most Commonly Reported Benefits of the P90X Nutrition Plan
The primary benefit of following the P90X Nutrition Plan is to make sure that you get the best results possible. However, after just a few minutes on the Team Beachbody forum, there are a large number of people that are reporting a bevy of additional benefits. Here is a quick look at some of the most commonly reported benefits of following the P90X Nutrition Plan both during the P90X program and after.
1.No More Hunger
This a huge benefit for most people who have jumped from diet to diet trying to find one that would allow them to stay full, but still control their calorie intake. P90X offers a variety of different “Phases” that are designed make sure that you getting enough calories and staying full, while also making sure that you don't overdo it. Eating multiple times throughout the day helps as well.
2.Easy to Follow
The P90X Nutrition Plan is designed so that the normal, average person can follow it. That means doing the shopping, preparing the meals, and of course using the scale. Plus, it is designed so that you can do most of your cooking ahead of time, which makes preparing your actual meals a snap.
3.Trying New Things
One of the most commonly noted benefits is that the P90X Nutrition Plan makes you try new things. While you probably won't like everything that you try, the odds are stacked in your favor that you will come out with a long list of new foods that you love to eat.
4.Flavor
Tony Horton is ignorant to the fact that most people don't want their meal time to be a chore or boring. In fact, boredom is one of the biggest reasons that people will quit their diet. The P90X diet is designed so that you get a variety of flavors and that you are always left satisfied after every meal.
5.Total Body Health
Another big benefit of following the P90X Nutrition Plan is that it is not only designed to help you lose weight and increase your energy, but improve your total body health. Some people have reported that their skin looks healthier. Others note that their hair is healthier. There are even people how have noticed that their fingernails look better. A deficiency in a certain vitamin can cause a lot of small problems within your body and will affect the way that you look. Depending on your current diet, it can be difficult to identify what your deficiency might be. Fortunately, the P90X diet solves this problem by making sure that you have all of your bases covered.
4Are You Halfway Through P90X and Still Not Losing Weight?
A common problem that people have with P90X is that they will be about halfway through the program and are still not really losing any weight. This is especially frustrating for people who are seeing an overall improvement in their body because of the strength training. There are a variety of different reasons that this can happen and it is important to step back and address this issue so that you can still get the best results possible.
1.The Caloric Deficit to Too Big
A common mistake that people make is creating a calorie deficit that simply too large for your body to handle. A lot of people will think that a small calorie deficit is beneficial so a huge deficit must be even better. Unfortunately, that simply isn't the case. By under-eating, there are several problems that will occur. The first is that it will force your body into “stress mode” because it feels like it is being forced to work too hard on too little resources. If this happens, your body will naturally hold onto your fat as an emergency fuel source. It can also inhibit your ability to build lean muscle mass. By eating more, your can actually improve your metabolism and increase weight loss. You should also keep in mind that if you are not eating enough calories, then there is a good chance that you will also not be giving your body the vitamins and minerals that it needs.
2.Sodium
Another common problem is that people will turn to foods that are high in sodium. It is unfortunate, but many foods that are low in calories but high in protein will often have high levels of sodium. You need to make sure that you are limiting your sodium intake. With too much sodium intake, your body will naturally retain water. If weight loss alone is your issue, then getting rid of this water weight is an easy place to start.
3.Eating Smart Foods
If you do not plan your meals correctly, you will have one of two problems. Either you will be eating too many calories, which will prevent weight loss or you will not be getting enough essential vitamins and nutrients. Fortunately, by focusing on nutrient dense foods, you will be able to limit your caloric intake while still giving your body everything that it needs. You should also look into nutrient rich product such as Shakeology because it is loaded with the nutrients that you need while minimizing the amount of calories that you eat.
In short, as long as you follow the recommended diet plan that P90X promotes, you should be losing weight. If you aren't, then there is normally something that you are doing that is preventing this. By taking a look at these three specific areas, there is a good chance that you will identify the barrier that you need to overcome.
4Ensuring Proper Recovery From P90X Workouts
A lot of people who are newer to P90X immediately look into doing P90X Doubles or adding extra workouts on top on the regular P90X program to get better results. The potential problem that this creates is that your body will not be able to fully recover from each workout. That means that you will actually be getting worse results, rather than better results. The key is overcoming this problem is ensuring that your body has the ability to recover. Here is a closer look at the importance of recovery and how to achieve it.
A Simple Rule For Better Results
The simple rule for better P90X results is No Recovery = No Results. If you body is not able to recover from your workouts, then you will not be gaining any benefits. Your body has a finite amount of energy and resources in which to build muscle. Every time you workout, you use some of your bodies energies and resources.
Creating an Opportunity
There is a general misconception about what working out does for your body. Working out, in and of itself, does not actually change your body. Rather it provides an opportunity for your body to change. The change actually takes place during the recovery phase. If you do not allow your body to recover, then you will not be getting the changes that you want.
What Affects Your Recovery?
There are a variety of factors that affect your recovery, along with the toll that your workouts take on your body. Here is a quick look at some additional factors that are important to keep in mind.
·Your Age
The older you are, the longer it takes for your body to recover from a workout. In general, once a person reaches 25, they will start to require more time to recover.
·Diet
There are a number of nutrients that your body needs in order to recover from an intense workout. If your body does not have the nutrients that it needs, it will not be able to effectively recover.
·Previous Training
The more your body becomes used to training, the easier it will be for it to recover. If you are just starting the P90X program and do not have much previous experience exercising, then it will take a longer to recover, at least in the beginning.

It worked my abs like your stirring mashed potatoes.

P90X is a fantastic program! I saw the most results from P90X out of any program that I have ever done to include basic combat training and an off-season collegiate weight lifting program. I saw incredible results when I completed the entire 90 day workout in 2008.
Since 2008 I tried to start the program twice and was unable to complete the entire program. It wasn't because I was physically unable, but because I didn't commit to do a 1 hour workout 6 days a week. I didn't plan! If you want this program to be successful you need to plan ahead. You need to incorporate 1 hour a day into your schedule regardless of how busy you are and plan your meals accordingly. The program is the best program that I have ever completed but you have to be committed and you need to plan and not make excuses!

This program really worked me like I have never done before. The first time I pushed play I must have taken like 4 breaks within the first 35 minutes and I didn't even think I was that out of shape, well besides the little beer belly that was forming. I did keep it up though everyday and I finally finished the program just two days ago. That beer belly I had is now gone and I feel sooo much better during the day and I have a lot more energy.

I haven't been able to spend much time on P90X yet, but I can tell that it will be a very good program. It appears to be very thorough, and the nutrition guide has a lot of meals to choose from. I haven't had time to shop for them yet, but I will very soon. I am expecting good results as soon as I really get going on it.

I started P90X with my wife a day over five weeks ago, and we are still committed to the program. We both enjoy it, so it has made it pretty easy to stick to it. Tony shows how to perform each exercise, and then he gives modified ways to perform them if you are having trouble....my only problem with P90X is that the Yoga workout is 90 minutes which is a bit longer than I think was necessary...not a complaint worth taking a star off, but I figured that I should mention it. Overall, P90X is a great program, and I would and have recommended it to my friends.

I also watched the infomercial several times, and I heard a couple of good things. I am almost 35 yrs old, and I am on week 3. The weight has been coming off pretty fast(I earned it), and it equals out to about 4 or 5 percent of my weight. Also, my muscles are defining a bit. I am not sure how much weight they are adding. I also want to add that the workouts are not cheesy like my wife's workout videos. Very Good program so far, and I am glad that I bought it.....

As advertised, this is possibly the best workout program available. It is difficult but rewarding. I've been doing P90X for about a month, and I have lost 10 pounds and a little more than 2 inches off of my waist. Definitely Looking forward to seeing the end results. My favorite part about the program is that it is very doable. I could very easily see it as a lifelong discipline, so I am considering adding to my normal routine.

It's great! I love it! It's hard, don't get me wrong, but you feel so good after the workouts because you workout so hard. I have not hit the gym in 4 years, and I wanted this year to be my year of change. It was! On a final note, I just want to say that Tony was very motivational for me.

Great workout, it will be very tough for people who do not work out very often. It has greatly helped me build up my core muscles. Buy it if you plan to work in a hardcore way.

A friend and I partnered up to do P90X. It was pretty fun, but it was very tiring. At the end, I was a lot stronger and I did look it, but I didn't quite have a six-pack. My friend did. I think he tried harder than I did. It might also be that he followed the nutrition plan, and I didn't. After doing P90X, I am a believer in the program, so I think I am going to try it again and follow the nutrition guide this time.

This program is really hard, if you have injuries you should really talk to a doctor before starting it. There is a lot of stretching though so it may actually help some people. It helped me loose quite a bit of weight and I can now feel my back is a lot better.

The P90X workout helped me loose over 20 pounds in only 10 weeks. I feel a lot healthier and have way more energy than I have ever had. My entire family has always been over weight and I am the first to get into shape. I am now hoping that my entire family will start the p90x workout.

The P90X Workout program got me into serious shape. I would highly recommend this workout too anyone. If you don't want something that last 90 days you should try Insanity that's the one my brother is doing right now and the one I am doing next.

This Workout Program has completely changed the way I live. The first 30-40 days were extremely difficult for me but if you push through it everything starts to fall in place and you really start to see a dramatic change in your body.
