If you are going to be consistent and successful in your regimen for fitness then a big consideration is the excessive impact on your feet, ankles, knees, and hips from a plyometrics workout routine. The overall health of your joints is heavily reliant the surface you are active on as we as the mat that you choose to protect those joints from damage. In this case, this is literally where the rubber meets the road. Ordinary mats might suffice for some routines but longevity under the reality of hard workouts is where you will see the need for exceptional quality (See more detailed information below). The striking impact of routines like P90X Plyometrics absolutely requires a comfortable mat that can absorb the continuous shocks that run through it. Bottom line…. Quality really counts in this department.

Why own your own workout mat? In general, it is not a good idea to work out on really hard surfaces like tile or concrete as it can very easily lead to serious joint issues and for some this can occur fairly quickly. Working out and stretching on mats is really a no brainer, besides being safer it is much more comfortable and makes the session a good deal more enjoyable. In addition you will be more relaxed and able to better concentrate on the exercise giving your absolute best effort making the whole regimen more effective in the end.
Owning your own mat means you always have a fresh surface on which to do your exercises. This is a great benefit because it is no secret….gyms are known as breeding ground for germs and the mats provided at the gyms are no exception for those germs. Doing crunches on the mats provided at most facilities most likely is not your ideal for sanitary conditions. Having your own mat is so convenient and means at least you know the last time you cleaned yours and also that you do not need to wait for a loaner to be available or wonder who has been rolling around on it before you….
All of this to say clearly exercise floor mats are one of the most essential pieces of your personal workout gear.
Many of the Beachbody workout programs include yoga routines where it is required to hold a variety of poses on arms and knees and even the top of your head (ouch). Without a mat, holding these poses can be brutally uncomfortable when attempted on hard surfaces.
More detail the importance of using a good workout mat
Those of us who exercise, all do so for several reasons including looking good and feeling good, however most also clearly have our long term health and well being in mind by maintaining a healthy body. A healthy physique is also very basic as a primary requirement to move about, perform daily duties and just simply enjoying life. That said, joint issues arise and directly attack our mobility; often any joint issues that do arise can sometimes delay or tend to show up later on verses early in life. So do make the mistake of thinking just because you do not feel anything now you need no precautions. A word to the wise for everyone is that caring for your joints now will pay big rewards. The cause of most injury accidents is from not using the right equipment. Doing exercises like Jumping and sit ups etc. on Hard surfaces can be VERY harmful to several areas on your body. When you attempt to do your workouts on hard surfaces it increases pressure on your joints and your risk of slipping and injury, leading to muscle, bone and joint damage. Unprotected, your spine is very vulnerable to even more serious injury and damage without the use of a mat for protecting vertebrae while practicing your exercises and poses.
The sad truth is exercising on an improper surface can actually lead to arthritis, the breakdown of cartilage in your knees and degenerative disc diseases of the back. As unfortunate as it is, accidents and injuries do happen however there are things we can do to reduce the instance of these by simply acquiring and using the proper equipment. That is why minimizing strain from those exercises that do impose stress on your knees, back, and joints, demands a superior Plyometrics mat which is certainly considered a really good investment. This is because the quality Plyometrics mats have been designed and manufactured specifically for absorbing shock, and thereby preventing the bearing of unnecessary stresses by your body while engaged in various forms of exercising. Unfortunately we may not feel or know what is happening to our joints when they are taking a pounding while working out. As eluded to before, in some cases we ironically are actually doing long term harm to it while working to achieve our objectives for physical fitness. It is true that Plyometrics mats can seem to be costly, but the higher truth is these mats make worlds of difference down the road later on.
Clearly Knee and back injuries often can among us become varyingly worse as the years go by, and as your body experiences the effects of aging. The traction this mat will provide means you will be standing and moving on a stable surface therefore the possibility of injury is lessened greatly. Obviously a few well spent dollars in preventative measures now may help you avoid the medical costs later and even more important, is the avoiding of aching and painful joints that often debilitate people not only limiting them in physical fitness routines but their lifestyle as a whole. The old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” certainly applies to your own care of your own body.
Other things to note:
As mentioned in the features above, the closed cell surface of these mats is uniquely resistant to absorbing moisture including sweat or any moisture which may contain or breed bacteria microbes. However the surface is easily cleaned and should be cleaned with regular use. The mat is cleanable with a simple soap and warm water, using a soaked but wrung out sponge or cloth wiping it systematically to avoid missing areas soaking and wringing often, let it air dry before rolling and storing. DO NOT machine wash as it may ruin the mat and your washing machine.
